Sean Merryman and his childhood friend Chris Hitzle have put their stake in the ground as Enterprise Farmers here at Crows’ Feat Farm. They will be managing Merryman’s Fine Foods, with a focus on annual vegetables and flowers. Sean and Chris have spent the last three weeks germinating seeds – spinach, kale, arugula, swiss chard, broccoli and micro greens–whatever plants can withstand the rigors of early spring! So far, the results have been encouraging, and we are not daunted by the ice and snow outside! Sean and Chris will be offering seedlings for sale, and will be planting them to grow into salad mixes and other uses for our community.
Sean will also be overseeing the Crows’ Feat Community Farm’s cultivation of vegetables this spring. That means all of the plants above, PLUS onions, broccoli, beets, potatoes, fennel, beans, carrots, tomatoes, zucchine and squash…and much more.
In addition to Merryman’s Fine Foods, we are delighted to welcome to Crows’ Feat Farm the Dandelion Project (agroforestry) and Capricorn Rising (small-scale livestock). These enterprise farmers are helping us–and each other–achieve a vision of cooperative farming, with a focus on regeneration–that is rare to find these days. We are working out the organizational parameters that will ensure every farmer can secure his/her livelihood, while supporting our shared goals.
Stay tuned!
